Anthony Hopkins Pounds Newbie Chris Hemsworth, Complains About Studio Shooting for 'Thor'
New York Daily News, 30 March 2010 There's already drama behind the scenes of the highly anticipated flick "Thor," and we hear it's being stirred up by none other than Anthony Hopkins. An on-set source says the Oscar winner is acting like quite the "divo" by constantly trying to "direct" Chris Hemsworth, who stars as the title character (and Hopkins' son) in the comic-book-based film. "Anthony has not tried to hide his disapproval of Chris' acting skills," the insider says. "Chris is definitely the least-experienced actor on set, but he's trying. He respects Anthony a great deal, and it looks like he's trying to grin and bear all of his criticism." The same can't be said of director Kenneth Branagh, who has apparently become annoyed after enduring Hopkins' criticism as well. "Anthony keeps complaining that they're shooting too many scenes inside the L.A. studio and not enough on location," says the source, adding that the film, which is slated for release next year, has so many special effects that the cast is often in a studio against a green screen. "He isn't used to this kind of work, and his pessimism is really starting to wear everyone down." Reps for Hopkins and the film denied that the actor is displeased with Hemsworth and Branagh, but our insider adds that there have been other incidents of strife on the "Thor" production. According to the source, much of the cast and crew headed to New Mexico for a four-week shoot that has turned into six — and may go even longer. "Everyone is cranky and frustrated that it's taking so long," says the spy. "But it's a very high-tech movie, and it just takes time to get things right."

Branagh, Hopkins deny 'Thor' Troubles
Digital Spy, 2 April 2010 Kenneth Branagh and Anthony Hopkins have denied rumors of conflict between cast and crew members on the set of Thor. Speaking to Hero Complex, Branagh, who is directing the adaptation, quashed the claims that Hopkins had openly belittled co-star Chris Hemsworth's acting skills and frustrated him with constant complaints. Hopkins has also issued a statement attacking the rumors. "I am having the time of my life making Thor with Ken and Chris," said the 72-year-old. "They have made every day immensely fun and collaborative, and we're all puzzled that someone would fabricate a story suggesting otherwise. I'm proud to say that Thor has been one of the great experiences of my career." Hopkins is playing the god Odin alongside Hemsworth, who takes the starring role as Odin's son Thor. Branagh confirmed that filming is nearly complete on the project.

Kat Dennings Sounds Off on Thor Rumors
Digital Spy, 4 April 2010 Kenneth Branagh and Anthony Hopkins have already responded to rumors that Hopkins was unhappy on the Thor set, particularly with the performance of lead actor Chris Hemsworth. Another cast member, Kat Dennings, also spoke out about the rumors in an interview with MovieWeb. Oh, absolutely 1,000 percent false. I don't know who would make up a story like that. It's almost comical. No, it makes no sense, none whatsoever. It's ridiculous. I never understand this part of the industry, why people actually invent things to hurt other people. It doesn't make sense. Dennings spoke from the Thor set where she is playing a friend of Natalie Portman's Jane Foster in the movie, in a part that was created specifically for the movie and would seem to be bigger than originally thought, considering Dennings says she will spend a total of six weeks working. It gives Dennings plenty of time to continue enjoying her collaboration with Branagh and being generally impressed with Hemsworth's performance. Chris Hemsworth is incredible. My jaw just dropped watching him. Oh my God. I can't even ... he could not be more perfect. Besides being the perfect Thor, he's just a great guy. I really like him a lot. I mean, I can't say too much, but I will say that it's probably been one of the most wonderful experiences I've ever had in my life. Kenneth Branagh is just incredible and so inspiring.
