Kenneth Branagh Set for Top Honor at Britannia Awards

Kenneth Branagh will have a big night Oct. 27.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles has just announced that Branagh, 56, will receive the Albert R. Broccoli Britannia Award for Worldwide Contribution to Entertainment at the 2017 AMD British Academy Britannia Awards. The event is scheduled to take place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel with support from title sponsor AMD and presenting sponsors American Airlines and Jaguar Land Rover. The evening will also see fellow honorees like Dick Van Dyke, Ava DuVernay and Claire Foy take the stage. British comedian Jack Whitehall is returning as host.

“Kenneth is without question one of the most influential figures in the British film, television and theatre community, and his talents have brought him much-deserved international acclaim and recognition,” said BAFTA Los Angeles chairman Kieran Breen. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to celebrate Kenneth’s work and honor him with this year’s Albert R. Broccoli Britannia Award for Worldwide Contribution to Entertainment.”

Branagh has received five Oscar nominations throughout his diverse career, across five different categories. Following an acting gig in Christopher Nolan's 'Dunkirk', Branagh will return to the screen in November in a redo of Agatha Christie's 'Murder on the Orient Express'. He directed the 20th Century Fox film and will star alongside Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Michelle Pfeiffer and Dame Judi Dench.

He's also received multiple BAFTA Awards during his career, including trophies for his work in 'Wallander' as well as for directing 1989's 'Henry V'.
