National Theatre to Live Screen MIF’s 'Macbeth'
The Stage, 30 May 2013 The National Theatre is to live broadcast Manchester International Festival’s production of 'Macbeth' starring Kenneth Branagh and Alex Kingston this summer. Around 300 cinemas in the UK will receive the live broadcast on July 20. An outdoor screen in Manchester’s city centre will also be showing the production as it is performed. Plans are underway for international cinemas across 25 countries to show the filmed production as well. This marks the first festival partnership for the National Theatre Live programme. The 'Macbeth' broadcast will be the fourth live screening from the National Theatre of a production staged outside of the London venue. In the past, the National has screened Complicite’s 'A Disappearing Number' from Plymouth’s Theatre Royal and 'King Lear' from the Donmar Warehouse in London. This summer it will broadcast 'The Audience' from London’s Gielgud Theatre.
